The Embassy of Livestock Animals

Embassy of Livestock Animals - A Design Workshop
Katinka by Satellite June

The Embassy of Livestock Animals is a speculative design initiative dedicated to exploring the lives, perspectives, and ethical considerations of non-human entities within our food system. It aims to create space for reflection, empathy, and dialogue around the billions of animals who share our world yet remain largely invisible in our daily lives.

Our Mission

In the Netherlands, livestock animals outnumber humans by far, but their voices and experiences rarely reach us. The Embassy seeks to address this imbalance by creating platforms where people can engage with the ethical, ecological, and social dimensions of human-animal relations. Through design, storytelling, and participatory activities, we invite audiences to encounter the lives of animals in ways that are tangible, immersive, and thought-provoking.

What We Do

  • Speculative Design Research: We explore alternative futures where livestock animals are recognized as active participants in our shared ecosystem.

  • Public Engagement: We develop installations, exhibitions, and interactive events that encourage visitors to question assumptions, reflect on care and inclusion, and consider ethical responsibility.

  • Workshops & Collaborative Projects: Through guided creative sessions, participants investigate the role of design in shaping more inclusive and ethical futures for non-human entities.

Events & Workshops

The Embassy organizes design workshops where participants reflect on their connection with livestock animals and explore how design can give voice to the unseen.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

In the Netherlands, there are more farmed animals than people, yet we rarely see, hear, or interact with them. These millions of animals in our food system are largely invisible: absent from our conversations, images, and designs.

During this workshop, we explore how design can create space for other lives. 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 that acknowledge these hidden lives.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼?

By shaping the clay, listening, and sharing, we’ll explore together how design can contribute to more inclusive perspectives, including for non-human beings. No experience is required, just curiosity and an open mind.

Afterward, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗱, 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱: tangible reminders of shared attention and hidden lives.

 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂?

You’ll explore how design can contribute to systemic change and ethical awareness. This session invites reflection, connection, and new ways of seeing. What does care mean when we’re not just talking about people?

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽?

This workshop is suitable for designers, professionals, and engaged citizens who want to reflect on the ethics of our food system, develop empathy for non-human entities, and explore their relationship to the broader living environment.
